2024 On Film

2024 On Film

Over the second half of 2024, I took my Canon EOS 650 35mm film camera on a few adventures around Southern Alberta. I captured images using Flic Film Aura 800 and Kodak 400 film stocks. It always amazes me how much character film gives to the medium of photography. I’m guilty of adding too much grain and over-editing my digital photos at times, so seeing this occur naturally is my favorite thing about photography. The best way I can describe the feeling is that shooting with film is more like painting a picture. Editing that picture afterwards has limitations but is also extremely rewarding when it works out.

Each photo was edited and adjusted using Adobe Lightroom. I found that some of the photos have weird horizontal lines, which I think were introduced during the scanning process at my local lab. I’m going to ask them about this the next time I drop off film. I was able to edit most of the lines out, but sometimes they are still present.

My goal for 2025 is to shoot a lot more film and really experiment with different film stocks and styles.
