Designing Karpat’s Golden Jersey
I worked with Karpat’s marketing manager Iikka Pirttikoski to help design the team a new third jersey to celebrate the club’s first ever championship win in 1981.
My idea was to take the original 1981 jersey and make it into a black and gold jersey. The gold was to signify the championship and work off of the club’s secondary yellow colour. I also wanted to add a “81” patch on the collar to pay tribute to the year the jersey was influenced from. We also worked with the team to cut down on the amount of advertising that would be placed on the jersey.
The jerseys were a hit, both fans and players loved them. They look great in action and the club was nice enough to send me an authentic, personalized one.
The original concept I designed had the logo in gold but was soon changed back to white to meet the brand standards.
This marks the first time I have ever helped design a professional sports team’s uniform. Truly a dream come true. A huge thank you to Iikka for letting me help out!
