Stamp Riders In The Sky
August 7th, 2021 marked the first Stampeders home game in 636 days. This opening video was created to welcome back the fans and celebrate The Calgary Stampeders’ 75th Anniversary.
This is a two part video that first features a welcome back fans cinematic and an up-tempo highlight video. Both videos were rendered together to create a seemless transition between them.
The song combines the classic western song but has new age grit that brings a lot of energy to the video. I played with the storm metaphor to show the past Stamps “spirits” invading McMahon Stadium.
TSN provided us with the player production shots seen throughout the video. I sifted through hours and hours of footage to find the most interesting Stampeders historic clips.
To achieve the visual effects seen throughout the video I used a gemstone and my iPhone. I held the stone overtop of my camera lens and recorded the computer screen to create the visual distortion and chromatic effects.
A huge thank you to Austin Shaw, Carlo Petrini, Geordie Macleod for the direction and support along with Riley Jans for the amazing voice over script and Pam Petrini for the fantastic sound effects.
