The Chain of Flames Song
This open was created to run only on games where we wore our retro uniforms. Director Steve Edgar, wanted to use this song for an open and we came up with the Retro Jersey concept as the song speaks about staying together and being a part of a family. The retro colours connect two different Flames eras into one.
A concept that I came up with was having the highlight portion of the song mirror old to new highlights. Mitch Nybo edited highlight portion and he did a fantastic job bring the idea together.
We sourced actual game worn jerseys worn by the team in the late 80s. This was truly a dream come true seeing these beauties in person!

At the time I was working on this project, I was obsessed with shooting film on older cameras. I wanted to play with the idea of having the photos be developed on-screen making it seem like the past is being awoken. In order to create the negatives I found select photos I wanted to use and loaded them onto my iPad. I then took photos with a film camera and got them developed, making them negatives again.
I took the negative strips and shot them with the Canon EF 24-70mm f/4L utilizing its macro mode. Canon’s C-LOG was used to capture all of the detail and it was shot in 4k so I had lots of pixels to work with.
The third step of this process was to animate them in After Effects. I was playing Red Dead Redemption II and the time the loading screen inspired me to have the colours flow onto the screen like they are being developed in a dark room. All I had to do was invert them and the original colour would show back up again.
The player comparison part was created to show how the 89’ Cup Winning team and today’s current Flames team have a lot in common. You have the sniper, the department of defence, the heart and soul guy and the leader.
