2022-23 Calgary Flames Opening Video

The concept I came up with for the 2022-23 Calgary Flames opening video was inspired by the notion that star players did not want to play in Calgary. We had just lost two of our biggest stars while having one of the greatest offseasons in NHL history. It was important to show how great our city is and that we were not going to back down.

My goal was to empower Calgary by using 3D to create an almost Game of Thrones style open. The most famous landmark in the city is the Calgary Tower and I wanted to make that the main character of the project. My idea was to have it build up almost like a Transformer but only revealing itself to the viewer at the climax of the song. At the end of the video the tower lights on fire, something that happens in real life during the most important days and events of the year.

Mitch Nybo edited the highlight section and credit goes to Pam Petrini for adding the amazing sound effects.
